The Scout Challenge
The Scout Challenge is open to all scouts from any council.
The Tenderfoot 5K and the Tiger Cub Half Mile are the only races for the Scout Challenge. Cub Scouts can participate in the Tiger Cub Half Mile or Tenderfoot 5K.
To participate, the scout must enter either the Tenderfoot 5K or Tiger Cub Half Mile by filling out an entry form (either registering on-line or by mail) with the payment for the race. There is no additional cost to participate in the Scout Challenge. The scout must identify the rank or den he will have on the day of the race.
This is a race within a race. The participants of the Scout Challenge compete for any awards in the overall/age group of the Tenderfoot 5K or the overall award in the Tiger Cub Half Mile.
Tentative Awards and Categories for the Scout Challenge
At this time, we are combining ranks/dens into the following categories to compete against each other. If the turnout of participation is great enough, some categories will be split into additional categories for the individual challenge. The awards will be presented during their individual pack or troop meetings at a later date.
Scoring and Categories
Boy Scout Categories
The ranks of: Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class compete as a category.
The ranks of: Star, Life and Eagle compete as a category.
Cub Scout Categories
Members of: Tiger Cub, Bobcat & Wolf Dens compete as a category.
Members of: Bears and Webelos I & II Dens compete as a category.
Awards
Awards will be decided by the fastest times and the number of participants in each category, up to 6th place. The depth of awards will be determined by the number of participants in each category and dividing that number by 3. This manner will be used in both the Scout and Cub Scout Challenges.
Example, if there are 1 to 3 participants in a category, then 1st place will be awarded, if there are 4 to 6 participants, then 1st and 2nd places will be awarded, if there are 7 to 9 participants then 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded and so forth up to 6th place.
